As a rule, I do not enjoy cleaning, ðŸ˜‰ but there is just something about spring cleaning that I love. It’s such a great feeling after all the clutter is cleared out and everything is fresh and new. As you are clearing out the clutter from your drawers and closets, take a little time for your heart and soul too! Let’s grab a few oils and clear out the emotional clutter that weighs us down.
Did you know that every oil has a physical and emotional benefit? Sniff the oil, your reaction to the scent indicates your need, disgust indicates an emotional need, passion indicates a physical need. You can read more about it in this post by Tracy Moore, originally posted on April 4, 2018, https://www.facebook.com/groups/287620334939604?view=permalink&id=566406713727630
Three oils that I commonly hear people say they really do not like are Fennel, Clove and Oregano. Let’s see how we can do some emotional spring cleaning with these oils!
Fennel has a sweet and spicy scent. Known as the Oil of Responsibility, it promotes confidence and courage, and helps balance emotions. If you need to clear out self-doubt, low self-esteem, or lack of motivation, use Fennel to uplift your spirit and support feelings of courage to look at the part of yourself that lacks love. Those suffering from negative self-image or victim mentality may also benefit from this oil. If you are challenged by weight fluctuations, rooted in feelings of being unworthy of love, it’s time to get your Fennel Vitality out, take a drop under the tongue or at the roof of your mouth and enjoy its sweetness to curb the cravings caused by an emotional attachment to eating. Fennel encourages you to live in integrity with yourself despite the judgment of others.
Try a night time diffuser blend of 3 drops each of Fennel, Basil, Rosemary and Peppermint to promote a good night’s sleep.
Oregano is the Oil of Humility and Non-attachment. An emotional cleanser, it is also physically cleansing and purifying. If you need to clear out negative emotions, you need Oregano.
Oregano releases the fear of completion and thoughts of vulnerability, removes emotional blocks, clears negativity and cuts away negative attachments. Spring cleaning at its best!
Oregano encourages feelings of humility and may help a person to release the need to be right, diminishing harmful forms of pride, let go of unhelpful opinions (or the need to share them in unhelpful ways), and to learn not to cling tightly to the non-permanent. Those who have a need to be “right” all the time or always attempt to convert other people to their fixed opinions can make good use of Oregano. Their strong will makes them closed off to change and unwilling to budge. Oregano can help you break through a strong will. Oregano supports letting go of rigidity, willfulness, negative attachments and materialism.
Make a roller bottle with Oregano, Basil, Rosemary and Thyme to apply to the bottoms of your feet each night.
Clove is hot and spicy and when used aromatically, supports mental clarity involving boundaries. Energetically, mentally, and emotionally, Clove encourages feelings of empowerment and courage to break patterns of being victimized.
Clove may also help a person struggling with codependency, or those who find themselves too dominating or crossing the boundaries of others by also learning to stand independent of others. Are you a pushover? Clove will give you the courage to say “NO”.
Clove can help you reflect on the causes of our self-sabotaging behaviors and assists us in releasing them because they no longer serve us.
Clove blends well with Cinnamon and Orange essential oils. These three oils in the diffuser are divine!

Pumpkin Pie Oats, Yum!!

Pumpkin Pie!  Some think that it is the most favorite taste and calls many well before Thanksgiving.  Pumpkin spiced lattes and a whole lot more.  Sometimes life has a way of getting IN the way and our pumpkin pie fix may not happen as it did in the past.  So........fix yourself some of this!  Eat it slow either warm or cold and give thanks for all that you have been blessed with.  Even if the blessings are in disguise!  You can even take this with you if you can't be at home.
Overnight Pumpkin Pie Oats
1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk1/4 cup plain nonfat greek yogurt or cashew yogurt for dairy-free
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
2 tablespoon pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup Organic Old-Fashioned Oats
2 teaspoons chia seeds
1-2 drops Cinnamon Bark Vitality
1 drop Nutmeg Vitality
1 toothpick swirl of Clove Vitality
In a medium bowl, mix together yogurt, almond milk, pumpkin puree, vanilla and maple syrup until well combined. Stir in oats, chia seeds and spices. Pour into a glass jar or container, top with chopped pecans and cinnamon if desired, and place in fridge for 4 hours or overnight. Makes 1 serving.

Mmmmmm....Pumpkin Bread

While we were on our annual Apple Run we attended the Harvest Festival in Hood River.  One of the displays was a pumpkin carver.  He had pumpkins he was working on that I swear must have been hundreds of pounds heavy as well as some regular sized ones with funny faces.  See the guy photo bombing my picture?  Pumpkins are so beautiful for decorating this time of year (see our Moldy pumpkin post from earlier this week) AND they are awesome for making pies and breads too.  Just a quick google search and you'll find that pumpkins are a bounty of good nutrition!

I want you to be super healthy so it just seems fair to give you a Pumpkin Bread recipe!  You can be all Susie Homemaker and use a real pumpkin for your puree or you can be like me and just buy the stuff in a can. I try to locate the organic canned pumpkin......real pumpkin, not squash!!

Pumpkin Spice Bread

  • Blend together 3 tbsp ground flaxseed and ½ cup water and let sit.
  • In large bowl, stir together 1 cup coconut palm sugar, 1 ½ cups applesauce, 1 14oz can Pumpkin Puree, and flaxseed mixture.
  • In a medium bowl, stir together 3 cups unbleached flour (or your gluten free flour), 1 tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp salt, 1tsp baking soda and 1/2tsp baking powder.
  • NOW.....here is the essential oil magic!  Combine wet and dry gently, and add 2 drops Young Living Nutmeg Vitality and 2 drops Young Living Clove Vitality.  If you love nuts, stir in 1 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts.
  • Spoon batter into 2 standard or 4 mini prepared loaf pans. Sprinkle with extra cinnamon and nuts.

Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 minutes (30 for mini). Use a toothpick to see if your bread is cooked through. Let cool for at least 20 mins before removing from pans.

If you happen to have lots of pumpkin spice bread and you can't eat it all.....I'll help you, just send it my way (especially if you made the gluten-free variety!)

Oily Cooking.

The time of season to start baking has arrived!  Some of you cook up a storm for the holidays and I'm going to give you a few ideas to make your recipes extra special this year!

All the oils I'll talk about are Young Living Vitality essential oils.  These oils are specifically for ingestion and FDA considered GRAS so you can consume with confidence.  I'm always confident in Young Living's oils because their Seed to Seal Guarantee of purity is above all the rest!

Okay.....now on to the oils!

Lemon Vitality Essential Oil

This versatile oil is awesome to add to pies (fruit) and tarts.  It adds a bright, sunshine flavor!  If you are making a lemon glaze for cakes or quick breads, mix a little Lemon Vitality into the powdered sugar.

Peppermint Vitality Essential Oil

I add about 10 - 15 drops to my brownies for a flavor explosion!  You could add to chocolate muffins too.   When you are making your homemade candy or fudge, use essential oils instead of extracts!

Cinnamon Bark Vitality Essential Oil

Adding Vitality oils to chocolate cake like the peppermint above is awesome but adding a few drops of Cinnamon Bark Vitality makes a delightfully warm chocolate cake. Cinnamon brings out the deliciousness of chocolate!!  Adding to apple dishes or sweet potato pie is awesome!  This oil is best added when you only use a toothpick dip.  Taste then add more if necessary.   Did you see our post several days about about cider with Cinnamon Bark?

Clove Vitality Essential Oil

Tis the season for pecan pie.  Well.....in my book, it is pecan pie season all year long!  Use just a toothpick swirl in your pecan pie to give an interesting new flavor.  This Vitality oil is also great for
spice cake or pumpkin bread.

Ginger Vitality Essential Oil

Now, just so you know.....ginger is kind of a stinky oil but boy does it add some yum to your apple pie!  AND.......what could be more delicious than using in your ginger cookies recipe.

Nutmeg Vitality Essential Oil

Want some amazing flavor in your french toast or waffle recipe?  Just add one drop!!  Or, you can add to your bran muffin recipe.

Orange Vitality Essential Oil

Tired of Peppermint in your brownies?  Try Orange Vitality instead.  Add to your muffin recipe or create a icing drizzle with Orange Vitality added.........AMAZING!

I only recommend Young Living Vitality oils when used for consumption because of their Seed to Seal commitment to purity.  If you are ready to try some, let us know.  We also offer local and online class on essential oils!
